Netflix K-drama “Business Proposal” review
Slightly spicy, light-hearted, and very funny, Business Proposal is one of the best K-dramas I have watched in a long time. It aired on Feb 28, 2022, starring Kim Se Jeong and Ahn Hyo Seop. The series contains 12 episodes in comparison to the typical 16-episode standard. However, it certainly does not fall short of entertainment.
Synopsis of Business Proposal
It tells the story of Shin Ha
Ri, a single, young woman working at a prominent company as a Food Researcher.
She becomes entangled with the CEO of her company at no fault of hers. Her
intention is to get rejected by him but it backfired as her actions only draw
him closer to her. However, he does not share his feelings because it’s not in
his nature to be in touch with his emotions. Kang Tae Mu is a workaholic who is
continuously being nagged by his grandfather to go on various blind dates. In
order to prevent the nagging, he makes the decision to marry the next woman he
meets on a blind date.
What did I like about the Netflix K-drama “Business Proposal”?
At first glance, one may
perceive this show as any other rom-com. However, the strong, unique plot and
character portrayal make it a show worth watching. At surface level it seems to
be another ‘fake relationship turned real’ scenario or ‘rich guy meets poor
girl’ show but it is so much more than that. What I like most is that the lead
actress, as well as her best friend, are strong, competent women who are
hard-working, ambitious and independent. Additionally, I was expecting the male
lead to be colder in nature but surprisingly there were many layers to his
personality, childhood and life that shaped his persona and his way of thinking
and dealing with situations.
Another couple I thoroughly
enjoyed was the 2nd lead Cha Sung Hoon and Jin Young Seo. Often
times I would find myself heavily invested in their relationship especially when
I was losing interest in the main leads’ relationship. This couple was also
more realistic as they faced a lot of real-life challenges and outside
influences but it was great to see how they eventually overcame those
challenges.
This review would not be
complete without mentioning Jin Young Seo’s cousin, Jo Yoo Jung, who brought a
lot of humor and laughter to this show. There was not a single scene that was
not funny. Her interaction with the other characters was always a joy to see.
All in all, this series was a
very ‘dramatic’ romantic comedy. Dramatic as it pertains to the funny sound
effects, funny animations, and the overall delivery of the actors. Moreover,
this is what made it extremely addictive, entertaining, and funny. Hence, if
you’re in the mood for romance but without the overly ‘lovey-dovey’ scenes,
this is the series for you.
